Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane fired Tunisia into the World Cup with a dramatic goal deep into stoppage time, sealing a 1-0 victory over Equatorial Guinea on Monday in qualifying.
The midfielder, set up brilliantly by fellow substitute Firas Chaouat, unleashed celebrations as Tunisian players and fans erupted behind the goal.
Tunisia needed nothing less than a win to guarantee its place at next year’s tournament in North America, clinching qualification with two matches still to play.
It now leads Group H with 22 points from eight games, 10 clear of Namibia in second place, which still has a game in hand. Remarkably, Tunisia has yet to concede a single goal in qualifying.
This achievement marks Tunisia’s seventh appearance at the World Cup and its third consecutive qualification, having reached the group stage in both 2018 and 2022.
